Not Your Storybook Couple: Love, Banter, and Creative Chaos

You might’ve clicked here expecting a whimsical tale: two star-crossed artists meet, fall in love, and live happily ever after in a house filled with drums, cymbals, color palettes, and sketchbooks.

A joyful moment as I playfully help Matt smile for the camera.
A joyful moment as I playfully help Matt smile for the camera.

Well… that’s adorable.

But no. That’s not us.

He, on the other hand, grew up more or less as an only child. So he doesn’t always appreciate my “playful” torture (aka “banter”).

The Blog & The Eye Roll

When a friend found out I had started a blog, her first reaction wasn’t, “That’s amazing!” or “How creative!” — it was:

“Why?”

Fair question. And honestly? I wasn’t totally sure myself. I just knew I liked writing and needed a creative outlet that didn’t require drying time.

Then she asked what kind of blog it was.

I told her it was supposed to be about art… and sometimes, it is. But sometimes it’s about Matt. (Did you feel that eye roll also? You should have. I certainly did.)

“Oh, dear heavens, that poor guy,” she said.

Which got me thinking—do people actually feel bad for him?

Let me clear something up:

There is absolutely no reason to feel sorry for Matt based on anything I say, write, or lovingly roast him about.

He’s heard it all before—and mostly just tunes me out. (With affection, of course. Probably.)

I even told him he could read anything before I hit publish. He paused for a second. I had insisted he read the first couple of posts, so I could see the gears turning:

“Wait… does this mean I have to read everything she writes?”

Then he shrugged and said,“Nah, I trust you. You won’t write anything terrible.”

See? He knows me. (And clearly has a high tolerance for chaos.)

Balance, Banter, and Beats

The truth is, he gives as good as he gets. My family used to feel sorry for Matt—until they saw him in action. Now they think we’re a match made in heaven… or possibly an improv set gone slightly feral.

Just to seal the deal, Matt’s mom once said, “You two deserve each other.” (She meant that lovingly. Probably.)

It’s a house filled with music and color—his drums and cymbals in one corner, my paints and canvases in another, and a running commentary of sarcasm and snack negotiations in the middle.

We live in art. We laugh a lot. Sometimes at each other. Always with each other.

No need for sympathy here.
