Behind the Paint - the paintings progression

Every painting begins with a spark—an idea born from a picture, a passing thought, a dream, or something entirely unexpected. Once that spark takes shape, the process begins—sometimes directly on the canvas, other times as a sketch with the final vision in mind.

No matter how it starts, every painting goes through its awkward phases. There are the ugly stages (yes, plural), and they don’t always leave quietly. It’s a bit of a love/hate relationship: one minute I’m inspired, the next I’m questioning everything. But somehow, through layers of color, doubt, and persistence, the painting begins to find its voice—and so do I.

In the end, it always becomes something I love. Even if we argued along the way.
