Painting Progession

She was a commissioned piece that took me quite a bit of time to begin. The commission was for a hot pink leopard. I started with her eyes and the rest of the coloring fell in place.

Old Blue is a Takin. I have seen documentaries about them. Their legs are short and stout. After seeing a living one at the St. Louis Zoo, I couldn't wait to paint him.

I have an affinity for this painting. After learning about the wildebeest on a nature documentary, I had to go see one and then was inspired to paint her. There were times I was uncertain whether I would get the color combination right; however, eventually, it all came together. 

After receiving a gift of a sketch pad, I sketched multiple dragons before deciding on the perfect sketch to base Dudley and Daisy on. They are a fun pair of what I picture as dragon children. He wants to play and she wants to dress up. 

After seeing a picture of an African Shoebill, I had to paint him. He was a lot of fun to paint. I worked on getting the eyes to look inset in the face. His expression says it all. 

I painted this painting so I could paint the marbles. I like the idea of working on shadowing to give a more 3-d appearance.
