Exhibition at Street SmARTs Gallery

Great news! I have officially applied to have my art placed in a gallery and drum roll please, it has been accepted. For the next four months, my artwork will be on exhibit at Street SmARTs Studios & Gallery, located at 3405 N. Villa Avenue, Oklahoma City, OK 73112. This local art gallery celebrates unique, inspiring, and affordable artwork from Oklahoma artists and believes in making art accessible for everyone.

Signing the contract somehow made the whole thing feel very grown up and official. Matt is thrilled that some of the art is moving out of the house and into a real gallery space, even if it is only temporary. I have gently reminded him not to get too excited. The space I’ll be using is 8 feet by 12 feet. It is not an entire gallery wall. It is not a full room. It is not a dramatic everything-must-go situation. Still, it is progress.

Now comes the real work. Deciding which pieces get the honor of hanging first.

Do I organize by theme? Sea life feels cohesive. Land life has weight. Bug life has opinions. Or maybe a transition theme. Art that feels like it is wandering from one idea into another, much like I do. There are so many good options, which is both a gift and a mild form of creative torture.

Which are the chosen pieces to be shown first?

One thing I am absolutely sure of is this. I plan on mixing up the space every few weeks. Paintings will rotate. Groupings will change. The goal is to keep the display exciting, fresh, and a little unexpected for repeat visitors and for me. If you visit more than once, you will not see the same wall twice.

And then, of course, the follow-up questions arrive. Uninvited but persistent. Calendars? Notecards? Postcards? Prints?

If I do offer them, what is the best way to display them without turning my little corner into a craft fair table? These are the questions that hover quietly in the background while I stare at paintings and pretend, I am just looking.

One small mercy is that the gallery space is currently empty, which means there is no rigid schedule. I can hang my artwork anytime. After much consideration and a few pacing laps, the plan is to go hang everything this Saturday.

It feels exciting. It feels a little nerve wracking. It feels like the next right step, even if that step is only eight by twelve feet wide.

Gallery Details and How to Visit:

Tuesday through Saturday from about 11:00 am to 5:30 pm, and it’s usually open for walk-ins during those hours. You can also arrange a visit by appointment with me.

If you are in Oklahoma City and enjoy discovering local art, I hope you will stop by and see my exhibition at Street SmARTs Studios & Gallery over the next few months. Whether you’re curious, inspired, or just here for the art vibes, come linger with what speaks to you. Bring a friend and make a small afternoon of it.

For updates on rotations, new pieces, and behind-the-scenes thoughts, keep an eye on The 3rd Flamingo and follow along as this gallery chapter unfolds.

Plan your visit during gallery hours this weekend or next. Snap a photo of your favorite piece. Let’s make this a small-town art adventure with big energy.

Onward and upward, or at least sideways into a gallery space.
