He’s Here! Welcoming My Matt Dixon Robot to Oklahoma

The robot print and Transmission 9 book have officially arrived—and may I just say, the Royal Mail delivered with truly un-robotlike speed. I was expecting a leisurely, dignified crossing of the Atlantic. Instead, it showed up as if the robots themselves decided I’d waited long enough.
The print is everything I hoped it would be: full of expression, detail, and that signature Matt Dixon charm—moody but never gloomy, thoughtful but never too serious. The kind of image that makes you want to clear space around it just so it can breathe. (And yes, I realize that implies the robot might be sentient. I’m not ruling it out.)
(My) Matt, of course, had thoughts. He appreciated the color and composition, but mostly he wanted to know where we were going to hang it. Which brings us to the next issue…
The Great Wall Space Dilemma
Finding blank wall space in our house is like finding parking at an art fair. Technically possible but emotionally draining.
I’ve been circling rooms, staring at existing art, squinting at light switches, and muttering things like, “Do we really need this thermostat?” The robot print is currently in what I’m calling “resting position,” leaning confidently on a shelf while we engage in light (but intense) wall-placement negotiations. Matt has a tape measure. I have opinions. We’re making progress.
A Book Bonus: Transmission 9
Along with the print, I ordered a copy of Transmission 9, one of Matt Dixon’s softcover art books. I didn’t plan to—but, you know how that goes. It’s full of rich, atmospheric illustrations that feel like quiet stories waiting to be told. It’s the kind of book that demands a slow read, preferably with tea and at least one dramatic sigh.
So… Which Robot Did I Choose?
Have you guessed yet?
If you know Matt Dixon’s work, you might have some ideas. Was it the wistful balloon robot? The one with the lantern? The peaceful napper in the field? Feel free to guess—I may hold off on revealing it… or I may cave and post it later today.
I'm already eye mugging a couple more that are screaaming to come live in America - with me. Again, if you haven't yet - check out his work here: mattdixon.co.uk
Curious which robot I chose? Keep an eye on the blog (or my wall!) for the full reveal. And if you’ve ever fallen in love with a piece of art—whether you made it or brought it home—share it in the comments. I’d love to see the art you had to have.
Thanks for reading The 3rd Flamingo — a blog for art lovers, creative wanderers, and anyone who’s ever made a beautiful mess.

Love this art! You have such a good eye. I know you will find the perfect place. It might help if I finally bought my "art" that has been hanging in your art room waiting for me to buy it. :) I still haven't hung up "Romance in the Rain" that I purchased August 2023. :(
I can’t wait to see the one you picked!
