O.M.G.! The Agony - October's Frazzled Monk
October shows up with cozy sweaters and pumpkin spice, but calm? Calm is MIA.

Even the quietest moments get hijacked by jittery thoughts and restless energy. You know the feeling: you sit down to relax, and suddenly your brain is hosting a full-blown existential crisis.
This month’s Frazzled Monk gets it. He was supposed to be serene. That was the plan. Somewhere along the way, calm slipped out the door, leaving wide eyes, pursed lips, and frayed energy in its place. There’s even a tiny lotus tattoo on his foot. Totally unnecessary. Totally staying.
I tried to paint peace. Instead, stress sneaked in. The monk became the embodiment of caffeine-fueled panic, existential dread, and everything in between. And somehow, it worked.
He grew up in a monastery where silence was golden and patience mandatory. Everyone expected him to be calm, wise, unshakable. Then life tested him. One deep meditation later, his mind was racing faster than his breath. Questions about calm, meaning, and that mysterious buzzing noise filled his head. Maybe coffee was the real secret to enlightenment.
Now, he looks caught between mild panic and “Are you kidding me?”—like someone just asked him to solve quantum physics while sitting cross-legged. He paces, grimaces, and mutters quietly: “Really, universe?”
Enlightenment, he’s learned, isn’t perfect serenity. It’s surviving chaos, caffeine jitters, and unexpected detours without completely losing it.
Think about your own “distressed monk moment.” When did calm backfire on you? Capture that chaotic calm however you like.
