How We’re Planning to Make 2026 Memorable

Matt and I have already started dissecting 2025 and plotting our strategy for 2026. What did we do? What did we actually enjoy? And most importantly, how can we make sure next year does not feel like a slow-motion rerun?
Looking Back at 2025
Honestly, 2025 was a bit boring. After our Paris trip in November 2024 and the planned Hawaii cruise for 2026, Matt laid down the law: “No expensive vacations this year.” Sure, we curtailed travel, but I am still not entirely sure we curtailed the expense. (He cannot win them all!)
The bigger issue is that we did not actually do much together. We did manage one mini-adventure; we went to Houston. It was a fun trip, but aside from that, we did not actually do much together. We worked on the patio, where I played the role of unwilling, unhappy helper, and that was about it. Not a single play. No concerts. Rarely even a dinner out. Life just sort of rolled along.
Paris... tons of fun.... the patio, not so much!
Taking Control in 2026
So, 2026 is going to be different. We pulled out our calendar and started blocking off dates for fun. Scheduling fun feels weird, right? But apparently, that is what being a grown-up entails. I have been Googling festivals, plays, concerts, new restaurants, and weekend getaways within driving distance. Matt has been doing the same. Together, we have committed to one new adventure each month.
Our Fun 2026 Plans
Attend at least one play, festival or concert each month
Try a new restaurant at least once a month
Plan one weekend getaway every quarter
Explore a festival or fair we have never visited
Take at least one spontaneous adventure without overthinking it (this will be very difficult for Matt, my itinerary addicted spouse).
2026, consider this your official warning. We are taking control. Life will not slip past without us noticing or enjoying it.
What are your favorite ways to make life more fun? Share your tips or tell us about your own adventures in the comments—we’d love to hear from you!
