A Moment Worth Hanging Art For

Matt wasn’t able to help me hang art this time, so off I went to hang the art by myself at the Midwest City Library art exhibit.

As I was setting up, a mother and her two children wandered in. The older child’s eyes immediately locked on the paintings, and he wasn’t about to miss out seeing the art. He and his sister headed over to the gallery. They walked down the row, oohing and aahing over every piece and then suddenly he stopped.

SPIKE! or I got it! Either way, sand crabs playing the game they were made for...sand volleyball.

In front of the sand crabs playing volleyball, he burst out laughing in sheer delight. “Mom, look at those crabs, they are playing volleyball!” His laugh was infectious, and I couldn’t help but chuckle along with him.

Normally I have help, but this time I hung the art alone. And while it can be challenging and a lot of work, it reminded me of why I do it: to share joy, spark imagination, and create art that makes people pause, even if only long enough to smile at sand crabs spiking a volleyball.

Thanks for reading The 3rd Flamingo—a blog for art lovers, creative wanderers, and anyone who’s ever made a beautiful mess.

If you’re near Midwest City, stop by the library to see the full exhibit. You never know what might make you laugh too.
