Stingray in Progress: Coral, Color, and a Cry for a Name

Giving a Stingray Painting New Depth

The rework is officially underway, and I’m happy to report my stingray painting is looking far more at home. I added coral along the ocean floor, which instantly gave the piece more depth and balance. Playing with different shades and tones of green brought movement into the background — as if the water itself is alive and swirling around the stingray. See the progression pics below.

A Happier Stingray (and Artist)

I’m much happier with the painting now… but more importantly, the stingray seems happier too. It finally has a background that feels complimentary instead of flat and uninspired.

The Big Problem: No Name Yet

There is, however, one big problem: this little guy (or girl) has no name.

The painting will be hanging at the Midwest City Library art exhibition in September, and that means you’ll have a chance to see it in person — and maybe even help give it a proper name. Because let’s be honest, Unnamed Stingray #1 doesn’t exactly sparkle on a gallery wall.

See It at the Midwest City Library

So, stay tuned, keep your best stingray-inspired ideas ready, and come meet this graceful (and slightly dramatic) sea creature at the library soon.

Stay tuned to see what how it turns out.

Don’t miss your chance to see the stingray in person (and help name it!) at the Midwest City Library exhibition.
