Merry Men of Mount Rushmore: Progress-ish

All of my paintings go through an ugly stage. Every single one. If you don’t believe me, wander over to the “Work Progression” section of the website—receipts are posted. For the merry men of Mount Rushmore, they aren’t just passing through the ugly stage; they’re lounging in it, possibly setting up camp.

The good news? At least the eyes are finally facing the right direction, and the heads are starting to look like, well, heads. (Okay, President Lincoln is still a little creepy. I'm working on it; I'm working on it!) The bad news? They are in no hurry. This painting seems to be running the show, guiding my brushstrokes with all the stubborn confidence of a director who won’t take notes.

It would be so easy to give up, but I’ve made myself a deal: at least one art class each session will be devoted to these stubborn fellows. They may drag their heels, but they can’t out-stubborn me. Progress may be slow, but at least it’s steady… ish.

PS - I feel like they are begging for an ant to make an appearance. We'll see if that happens!

Curious to see how the Merry Men evolve? Follow along on the Work Progression section of the website and watch them (slowly) come to life.
