Aardvark

I never gave much thought to aardvark. Based on a suggestion to check them out, I badgered Matt until we took a trip to the Memphis Zoo to see an aardvark in person. (Yes, the Memphis Zoo, was the closest zoo to us. I pushed for Hawaii; however, that was quickly shot down as not practical for the time frame I was pushing. The Memphis Zoon had a baby aardvark that was very rambunctious. The adults were sleeping in an enclosure away from the baby. After seeing the aardvarks, I knew they begged to be painted.

Surfing Ants

This was a background started many years ago. I found it in the closet and decided it needed to be finished. After seeing a photo of surfboards standing up on the sand, I had the idea of how to finish the painting. Of course, it had to have a relaxing ant in the hammock. Makes me think of warm, relaxing vacations.

Tretura

Many of you know my husband is in a rock band. For a different type of painting, I decided to paint the band logo. The skull and fire are classic rock symbols, and this painting adds a colorful twist. The bold, vibrant colors represent the energy and power of the band's sound. The overall effect is a logo which conveys the energy and enthusiasm of Tretura.
Rise was the first song released from the debut album.
I have a short cameo in Ballad of a Frustrated Rocker, listen to it and see if you hear the cameo.

He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not

She is picking petals with the hopeful idea of whether the boy she has her eyes on loves her in return. I picked this little lady from Affordable Art and Frame. The yellow frame is very becoming on her.

What Lies Beneath
Alligator
If you read about the Okapi calf you know, I was constantly at the zoo. Although the search to see Okapi took a while to be successful, I was not deterred from checking out the other animals. As I walked by the alligator exhibit, I noticed all of the leaves were falling with a few of them landing on the alligator. As soon as I saw this, I knew it had to be painted.

Painting ideas in progress
I take photos of random things everywhere I go. If you looked at the photos on my phone, there are photos of things that strike my interest, make me smile or are just in my mind different.
Here are a few of the ideas that may eventually become a painting.

Another flower painting I started and then decided I couldn't figure out how to finish. So, it so another painting saved from the closet to be completed. I blocked in four more flowers. This should help me be able to complete the painting.
The second photo shows adding additional details and filling in the background flowers.

There are always ideas floating around in my head for paintings. Sometimes the ideas gel and eventually end up on canvas. Other times, ideas remain ideas. What makes one idea develop into a painting and another remain an idea, I don't know. But, it gives me lots of things to think about.
What's being painted now?
It is amazing how different the landscape is across America. On a recent trip to the Grand Canyon, we saw hundreds of yuccas, junipers, cacti and more. I took this picture and immediately thought, this is the Southwest Wishbone. I knew it would be painted and already knew what it would look like. I must admit when I started, I was uncertain of the outcome. It's not quite finished but is definitely headed in a good direction.
